Building a Classy Wardrobe

A well-chosen, versatile wardrobe will allow you to make favorable impressions on your family, friends and colleagues. Try building a day to day wardrobe that will see you through at least two weeks without repeating any clothing items. Use these tips as a guide:

  1. Less is More
  2. Buy underwear that looks good under your clothing
  3. Wear clothes that flatter your figure (don’t always follow trends)
  4. Wear neutrals (try adding complementary neutrals if you are afraid to stray too far from black)
  5. Black pants are a staple
  6. Jeans can be stylish
  7. Limit the # of patterns in your closet – having too many patterns limits your outfit possibilities
  8. Invest in quality clothes – when possible invest in well-made clothes, they don’t have to be expensive, but fabric must be of good quality

Do you have the basics?
Here are some basic pieces for a classy wardrobe:

  • black suit
  • well fitted jeans
  • white shirt
  • leather tote – stick to classic neutrals that don’t date easily & will work with various outfits
  • form-flattering dress
  • simple earrings
  • basic tank tops & tees – (that can be easily paired with several jeans & shorts)
  • classic pumps

Building your classy wardrobe together may seem expensive, but if you do a little planning and set yourself a budget, over time you’ll find that you can make careful choices that quickly get you where you need to be.
